2021 trends by Caremla Martí
As at the beginning of each year, at Carmela Martí we analyze the key interior design trends for the hospitality industry in 2021. This time, the trends are influenced by the pandemic, which has forced us to change the way we view reality. There is a focus on resilience and renewal to overcome adversities with positivity and hope.
Trending Colors
It is clear that the standout colors of 2021 are Illuminating and Ultimate Grey, chosen by the Pantone Institute for conveying hope and resilience, two very necessary values in these times. However, we want to go a step further to identify the color ranges that will define projects this year. On one hand, pastel colors like pink, blue, and green convey calmness in enclosed spaces. On the other, colors reminiscent of nature, such as Jacaranda, will be prominent.

Creation of Bubbles or Private Areas
The need to adhere to social distancing has created a demand for smaller spaces or semi-private areas where small groups of people can gather. Curtains are the ideal element for creating these small zones as they offer the flexibility to be put up or taken down easily according to the needs of the moment. Additionally, the sound-absorbing capacity of textiles improves acoustics, making the space more pleasant.
Sustainability
This was already a trend before the arrival of Covid-19, and in 2021 it will become a necessity. Collections made from PET plastics and reused cotton are an example of how it is possible to produce fabrics sustainably. The goal is to achieve a circular economy where fabrics can have a second life.
Natural Prints
Now more than ever, interior design should create warm environments, and earthy green tones as well as organic yellows are perfect for this. Additionally, botanical prints bring nature indoors, something very necessary during times of confinement and restrictions. A good way to incorporate these prints into rooms is through plaids and cushions, as they do not require a large investment.

Antibacterial Materials
Hygiene and safety will be very important to gain customer trust. Antibacterial fabrics with virucidal properties ensure the virus does not spread. Similarly, fabrics washable at over 60°C ensure total disinfection. Our Hygienic collection includes all such fabrics.
Outdoor Spaces as the New Protagonists
Terraces have become the most sought-after areas of establishments, even in winter. To ensure customers feel comfortable, it is essential to create cozy areas with cushions that invite sitting and blankets to combat the cold. For cushions, it is advisable to use outdoor fabrics that resist sun exposure, moisture, and low temperatures.
