Quality Products
Who said that recycled decorative textiles have inferior quality? Far from it, as they have the same properties as any other textile. Additionally, the design can be customized according to the needs and personality of the establishment. Therefore, quality, style, and recycling are not conflicting concepts. The difference lies in the origin of the yarn, which is recycled, with polyester being the material used by regulation.
Circular Economy
As mentioned earlier, the circular economy is already a fundamental pillar in the textile industry. Years ago, fabric remnants used to be discarded, generating a large amount of waste. However, nowadays, the culture of recycling is being internalized in textile production processes. This way, these remnants are given a second life, contributing to generating less waste, reducing environmental impact, and moving towards more efficient and responsible consumption.
European Directive
On January 1, 2025, the European Union Directive EU 2018/851 will come into force, requiring Member States to implement selective collection of textile waste and set objectives for their reuse and recycling. Therefore, and in line with the previous point, recycling discarded textiles, many turned into decorative textiles, will be the main option to comply with this mandatory regulation. In fact, companies like Resuinsa have already started working on this to offer circular economy services to hotel establishments.
Posidonia Collection: 100% Sustainable
Posidonia is a notable example of a collection of recycled decorative textiles. As part of Carmela Martí’s firm commitment to sustainability, we created and designed Posidonia, whose fabrics are made from recycled fibers from plastic containers collected from seas and oceans and recycled cotton fibers. The collection offers a sustainable solution to all decorative textile needs a hotel may have: plaids, sheer and blackout curtains, bed skirts, bedspreads, cushions, etc.
Thus, Posidonia has become the first comprehensive collection of 100% sustainable decorative textiles for the hospitality sector. Additionally, the fabrics used have been accredited with the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) certificate, which guarantees the origin and sustainable process throughout the entire production process.
In short, recycled decorative textiles achieve a significant reduction in environmental impact without compromising the quality and properties of the items. Furthermore, they not only offer a second life to waste, whether textile or plastic, but also help take care of the planet, the only one we have, throughout the entire production chain.
